DESCRIPTION
KOTPAD Weave is known for its natural dyeing techniques and tribal motifs, and has even received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, which highlights its unique cultural and regional significance.
*These are traditionally woven by the Mirgan community, where the weavers usually use cotton yarn, and the entire process—spinning, dyeing, and weaving—is done manually in Pit Looms.
*The yarn is dyed using organic dyes made primarily from the aal tree (Indian Madder).
*The dyeing process is time-consuming, involving 15–30 days of fermentation, but it results in rich earthy colors—mostly deep reds, browns, maroons, and blacks.
*The motifs are inspired by tribal life—crabs, tortoises, fish, axes, boats, and other elements of nature and mythology.
*The process is sustainable and eco-friendly, as it avoids chemical dyes or machines.
