Irkal Paithani is a traditional variety of Paithani saree, originating from the town of Irkal in Maharashtra, India. They are typically woven using a combination of silk and metallic threads, such as zari, to create a luxurious and ornate appearance. The sarees are woven using a specialized technique known as "Kadiyal." Kadiyal is an ancient 3- shuttle technique of weaving sarees. Three shuttles are used for creating the border and body where the weft threads of both are interlocked together. Being genuine handwoven pieces, unevenness in the selvedge and weave could be expected. The pallu of the sarees have bold and geometric designs, often featuring stripes, checks, or diamond-shaped motifs, created using contrasting colors to achieve a striking visual appeal.
These sarees are highly prized for their craftsmanship, durability, and timeless elegance. They are often worn on special occasions such as weddings, festivals, and cultural events, where they symbolize grace, tradition, and cultural heritage.
